Chapter 438: 438: Generations Apart
Chapter 438: Chapter 438: Generations Apart
The four children were too dirty, so Qin Zhan and Gu Beihuai took them to the bathhouse first to have a wash; there were clothes sent over that were no longer worn by the kids at home.
After the four children changed into clothes, their features became clearer, and they did bear some resemblance to Father Wu.
It was certain that they were indeed the Wu Family’s children.
An accident had occurred in the middle of the wedding, and nobody felt like continuing to eat; Wu Haipeng and Dangdang were busy throughout.
Gu Nanzhi and others were helping out, while Tang Chuxia was called away by Elder Huang to examine the great-grandma.
Privately, Tang Chuxia hoped the great-grandma wouldn’t pass away just yet, because she could see that as long as the great-grandma was alive, Mrs. Wu probably wouldn’t feel like flaunting her mother-in-law status.
And only with the great-grandma alive could Father Wu possibly avoid being too soft-hearted and letting Mrs. Wu off the hook.
The existence of the great-grandma was a reminder to Father Wu of what his own free-choice love affair had really brought him.
Was it really that free love was more important than family ties?
Of course, the days ahead for the Wu Family would be tough.
No matter what, Tang Chuxia would do her utmost.
The great-grandma’s condition was already poor because of years of hard work and the successive deaths in the family, both her body and mind had suffered greatly.
“The situation is not good, we can only stimulate her with strong medicine and hope for recovery later on,” said Elder Huang as he started administering acupuncture, with Tang Chuxia assisting by his side.
Originally, the great-grandma was ready to let go and was now intent on dying, without much desire to live.
“Granny, if you pass away now, your four great-grandchildren will be left with even less protection, do you trust your son and daughter-in-law?”
Tang Chuxia saw that the great-grandma was still not improving, and so she leaned close to her ear and shouted.
Elder Huang and the old Taoist beside her were speechless at her words.
At a time like this, such words were indeed stimulating.
Sure enough, the great-grandma’s chest started to heave, as if her breath had gathered strength again.
Elder Huang gave Tang Chuxia a thumbs up, admiring her greatly; indeed, a woman knows a woman best.
After struggling to get the great-grandma’s condition stabilized, Tang Chuxia went to open the door, and seeing Father Wu’s disheveled appearance, she nodded, “Uncle Wu, Granny Wu has stabilized now, but her body is very weak, she needs careful nurturing!”
Father Wu nodded vigorously, “Thank you, Xiaxia. Uncle really thanks you!”
Tang Chuxia sighed, “Uncle Wu, I have to say this, Granny Wu and the four children are really not doing well, life has been too hard, please pay more attention!”
Father Wu nodded, intending to go in to see the great-grandma, when Tang Chuxia came out and saw Gu Beihuai and Qin Zhan with the four little ones, none of whom were speaking a word.
Qin Zhan and Gu Beihuai were both looking somewhat awkward, and they hadn’t eaten anything; upon seeing Tang Chuxia emerge from the room, they all crowded around.
“Your great-grandma isn’t dead, but you need to eat to have the strength to take care of her!”
Tang Chuxia crouched in front of them, and the four little ones nodded vigorously; the oldest being only seven and the youngest just two, they were really easy to coax.
The four little ones then turned and started eating from the bowls that had just been filled for them.
Even the two-year-old struggled to reach for the bowl, and Tang Chuxia quickly picked him up.
“You’re too small to eat this. Shall your sister make you something yummy?”
After Tang Chuxia finished speaking, Gu Beihuai patted her, “You’re mixing up the generations!”
Tang Chuxia glared at him, “I want to be called sister!”
She certainly didn’t want to be called auntie by the kids.
Beihuai had no choice, the little one was so hungry he was sucking on his fingers, so Tang Chuxia took a piece of candy, stuck it on a toothpick, and handed it to the little guy: “Eat a candy first while waiting, but don’t swallow it, only lick it!”
Fortunately, the little one could understand and obediently held the toothpick, licking the candy.
“Can you cook?”
Beihuai asked, curious. Tang Chuxia shook her head: “But I can make baby food!”
The baby food for children is simple.
For example, rice puree, which others might need to crush at a mill, Tang Chuxia simply ground the washed rice and then boiled water to cook it, which was really quite convenient.
Concerned the little one would find the food tasteless, she added some minced meat.
The main goal was to make it easy to digest.
The little guy hadn’t had much good food before; giving him too much could ruin his stomach, so it was better to go slow.
Watching Tang Chuxia prepare the baby food, Beihuai felt a bit envious.
He hadn’t yet had the pleasure of enjoying the meals Tang Chuxia prepared, yet that two-year-old little one already had, which was truly enviable.
But obviously, this was something to be envious of only; Tang Chuxia wasn’t ready to become the perfect wife and mother.
After coaxing the child to eat, Mrs. Wu came to pick up the kids, and Tang Chuxia had no choice but to look towards Wu Haipeng.
“Mom, I’ll make arrangements!”
Wu Haipeng immediately stopped Mrs. Wu.
It wasn’t that they didn’t trust Mrs. Wu at this moment; they dared not trust her.
No one knew, under the extreme irritation, what bad things she might do.
Mrs. Wu’s expression was extremely ugly, but it didn’t change Wu Haipeng’s decision.
“Brother Huai, Xiaxia, can you guys help me, please? Look after these children for a bit; there’s a lot going on at home. Once everything is settled, I’ll come to take them back!” With Wu Haipeng’s request, it was natural for Tang Chuxia and Beihuai not to refuse.
Fortunately, there were many adults at home, and the four children were especially well-behaved, not crying or making a fuss. Even when the little one was sleepy, the oldest child would carry the little one on his back, and soon would have the little one lulled to sleep.
Seeing their expertise, they must do this often.
“They really are so sensible!”
Madam Tang remarked on the side.
She thought of her four sons, who had also helped her in this way when they were young.
Tang Chuxia was curious about what Madam Tang was thinking and asked her to tell the story, which was just right to use to soothe the children.
Madam Tang settled the children in her son’s room. The four little ones were very restless and wanted to go to their great-grandma, but they also knew how tired she was at the moment and dared not bother her.
After hearing the story and having walked such a long way, all four little ones fell asleep.
Madam Tang and Tang Chuxia felt the weight in their hearts: “They are so sensible, sensible to a heart-aching degree!”
Tang Chuxia agreed.
Indeed, they were too sensible; if these children were cherished by their parents, they would not be this well-behaved. Now was the age to be whining to their parents.
“Mom, what will happen to Wu Haipeng’s mother?”
Tang Chuxia was genuinely curious, but Madam Tang just shook her head: “This sounds like it’s your aunt’s issue, but we can’t just convict her like that, no conviction is allowed!”
Tang Chuxia was surprised; she thought for sure such actions would result in imprisonment.
But Madam Tang explained a reason that overturned Tang Chuxia’s belief system.
“Even though everything points to Wu Haipeng’s biological mother, she didn’t personally act. Even though there were incidents, there were reasons, and a culprit can be found, she would at most just rationalize all her actions under a guise!”
