CH.761 The Sphere Field Tournament, part 1
So yeah. The tournament began. And it is a bit strange since I’m both hosting it and taking part in it.
But you really shouldn’t look at it that way. That is because me, the host and the actual Brian, blocked Myrphe’s connection to me. I can still see what that me is thinking and so on, but she can’t back access my mind. No cheating and all of that.
Not that that me would try. Because she also has another way of cheating we discovered.
See, both of us can pretty much pick what monster we summon from the Sphere Field, despite the fact that it should be random. If, for example, Myrphe wanted to summon SF Number 77, she could do that basically every time. It wasn’t quite 100%, more like 97%, but that is way too reliable. And it didn’t take much to do. Just thinking ‘this monster would be perfect’ was basically enough to have that monster appear.
So I, the ‘prime’ me, had to make sure the selection was actually random every time Myrphe summoned something from the Sphere Field. Or bad things would happen. The bad thing being the tournament being boring and Myrphe's existence being meaningless.
In other news, the finals of the tournament had 32 competitors, instead of 16 like the previous ones. I just wanted Myrphe, me, to get that one extra duel in. Well 2 since they are matches, but you get the point. And it just feels better since there were no qualifying duels, just duel puzzles.
Now, outside of Myrphe, there was one other ‘illegal’ person taking part in the tournament. And no, I’m not talking about Wilma. She is allowed to participate. But Hiro Crystalline took part, despite technically not being allowed to.
The tournament has an age limit of 15. You can’t enter if you are younger. So technically Hiro shouldn’t be allowed to enter.
… but he talked me into it. And since he is of a race that can modify their own appearance, he made himself look older to where he would fool others. And since I was already cheating by having my soul copy participate, I let Hiro into the tournament.
Yes he had to qualify like anyone else. I didn’t let him pass that part. The only exception I made for him was the age. And honestly, I don’t think age is as big of a thing in this tournament as it was in the last one. Last time, there was the entire riding aspect. This time we are just having fairly normal duels, so no real threat to safety.
Saffee did also try to qualify, but she didn’t quite make it to the finals.
Oh, and one more thing worth a note before I get into the tournament, Sharon, the arachne alchemist, is quite the fan of Myrphe. She really took a big sister role in regards to my alter. Because ‘Myrphe’ is staying on HomeBase for the duration of the tournament.
And no, Sharon didn’t know Myrphe was actually me. I didn’t tell too many people that fact. And I probably don’t need to remind you of how unique Myrphe really is.
But that is that for background info, let’s just go over some of the first round duels. And no, I’m not covering all of them fully. Actually, I probably won’t do that all that much. I’ll just do quick recaps of interesting duels.
But before that, a few custom cards. Starting with the card this tournament is based around, the Numeron Sphere Field.
Yes, I added the Numeron at the start. It just felt appropriate.
Spoiler
Numeron Sphere Field
Field Spell Card
Cannot be Destroyed or have its Effects Negated.
During their Main Phase, either Player can Special Summon a random "SF Number" monster from the Sphere Field Extra Deck by using 2 monsters with the same Level from their hand as Xyz Materials. (This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon.)
"SF Number C" monsters may be Summoned from the Sphere Field Extra Deck using "Rank-Up-Magic" Spell Cards.
"SF Number" monsters cannot be Ranked Up into monsters, other than "SF Number C" monster that shares the same number, and they cannot be used as Xyz material under other circumstances.
If a monster Summoned from the Sphere Field Extra Deck has no Xyz Materials, destroy it.
[collapse]
In case you need clarification on the rules, I’ll quickly run over them. First, an SF Number, after being destroyed, goes to the GY of the player who summoned it. It can be summoned from there, and since it wasn’t summoned from the SFED, it can stay on the field even without materials.
The ‘cannot be used as Xyz material under other circumstances’ part limits you from rank climbing with them. Let’s use Myrphe’s Xyz spiders as an example.
If you get SF Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula from the Sphere Field, you can’t rank it up into Number 84: Pain Gainer or Number 77: The Seven Sins. Nor can the SF versions be summoned that way.

And if you use a RUM on a Sphere Field Number, you have to summon the monster with the same Number, and it has to be an SF Number C monster. That is pretty much it.
You might wonder why the Field Spell doesn’t have the ‘SF Number monsters cannot be destroyed by battle, except with Number monsters’. And the reason is because I just wrote that effect on each of the SF Numbers. Just so that effect can be negated. Because that is how it was in the anime.
… and, you know, my deck kind of needs that to be the case. Otherwise the Galaxy-Eyes Dragons couldn't take down SF Numbers.
Now, let's actually go over some duel results. Myrphe naturally won hers. And it wasn’t even much of a match. Her opponent just summoned 2 Sphere Field Numbers on his first turn, and when it was Myrphe’s turn, she used Rainbow Butterfly and Rainbow Spider to go into Number 70: Malevolent Sin and ranked it up into Number C70: Deadly Sin with Numeron Force.
Spoiler
Rainbow Butterfly
Level 4
Light/Insect/Effect
1600/1000
If there is a face-up Xyz Monster on the field, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand).
When this card is summoned: Add 1 Insect-type monster from deck to hand, except Rainbow Butterfly. You can only activate this effect of “Rainbow Butterfly” once per turn.
If this card is detached from an Xyz Monster and sent to the GY to activate that monster's effect: Special summon 1 Insect-type “Rainbow” monster from the deck.
Rainbow Spider
Level 4
Dark/Insect/Effect
1800/400
If there is a face-up Xyz Monster on the field, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand).
When this card is summoned: Send up to 2 Insect-type monsters from your Deck to the GY. You can only activate this effect of “Rainbow Spider” once per turn.
If this card is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard: special summon Insect-type monsters from your GY, except “Rainbow Spider”, up to the number of Xyz monsters your opponent controls.
Number C70: Deadly Sin
Rank 5
Dark/Insect/Xyz/Effect
2900/1900
3 Level 5 monsters
Once per turn: You can special summon 1 Rank 10 Insect-type Xyz monster using this card as material. (This is treated as an Xyz Summon. Xyz Materials attached to this card also become Xyz Materials on the Summoned monster.)
If this card has "Number 70: Malevolent Sin" as an Xyz Material, it gains this effect. ● You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, target 1 monster your opponent controls; banish it until your opponent's 2nd Standby Phase after this effect's activation. Then, if it was an Xyz monster, gain LP equal the banished monster's original ATK, multiplied by the number of Xyz material it had before it was banished.

She used Deadly Sin’s effect to banish her opponent’s Number 85: Crazy Box, and gaining 6000 LP since Crazy Box had 2 overlay units. And since she detached Rainbow Butterfly, she got to search for a Rainbow Spider, which she special summoned.

She then used C70’s first effect to summon out Number 35: Ravenous Tarantula. It had 6k attack because of the LP gain, and it also boosted the Rainbow Spider to 7800.

She attacked her opponent’s Number 25: Force Focus with Number 35, inflicting 3200 damage. This increased the LP difference between the two duelists, so her Rainbow Spider now had 11000 attack. And Myrphe attacked directly with it, winning the duel.

The second duel of her first match lasted a bit longer, since she did go first, but she still won it on turn 5, or her third turn.
Wilma also won her first match with ease. Her opponent summoned out an SF Number, and Wilma called out Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Juggernaut Liebe. With 6000 attack and the ability to attack 3 times, it didn’t matter that her opponent’s monster wasn’t destroyed. His life points were reduced to nothing.

Hiro had the ‘hardest’ time of all of us. That is probably because he was running Crystal Beasts. I originally didn’t even have them available, but he asked if he could use them so I added them in during the last card patch. Not like they are that good, as proven by the fact that most didn’t even test the deck.
But Hiro made it work. Crystal Abundance is a hell of a card if you can get the conditions for it.
Spoiler
[collapse]
It may have also helped that I made them a custom Xyz monster. Crystal Beast Quartz Wyvern. It is a rank 4, but you can treat level 3 Crystal Beast monsters as level 4 monsters when summoning it, and you can also use Crystal Beast monsters that are treated as Spells in the backrow as materials. It can be summoned with 2+ Crystal Beasts and it has 3 effects.
You can detach 1 material to add a ‘Crystal Beast’ or a Spell or a Trap that mentions ‘Crystal Beast’ in its text to your hand.
You can detach 2 to special 1 ‘Crystal Beast’ from the deck, GY, banishment or one that is a Continuous Spell.
And you can detach 3 to special Rainbow Dragon ignoring summoning conditions. And if summoned that way, any monster that battles Rainbow Dragon is banished after the damage calculation, even if Rainbow Dragon leaves the field. And the Rainbow Dragon is also unaffected by activated effects while Quartz Wyvern is on the field.
Spoiler
Crystal Beast Quartz Wyvern
Rank 4
Light/Dragon/Xyz/Effect
2200/2200
2+ Level 4 "Crystal Beast" monsters
For the Xyz summon of this card, you may treat level 3 "Crystal Beast" monsters as level 4 monsters, and you may use "Crystal Beast" monsters that are currently treated as Continuous Spells.
You can only use each of the following effects of "Crystal Beast Quartz Wyvern" once per turn.
➀ Detach 1 Xyz material: Add a "Crystal Beast" monster or a Spell/Trap card that mentions "Crystal Beast" in its text to your hand.
➁ Detach 2 Xyz material: Special summon 1 "Crystal Beast" from deck, GY, banishment or one that is a Continuous Spell.
➂ Detach 3 Xyz material: Special summon 1 "Rainbow Dragon" from deck, GY or banishment ignoring summoning conditions. "Rainbow Dragon" summoned by this effect unaffected by activated effects, while Crystal Beast Quartz Wyvern is on the field. If the "Rainbow Dragon" summoned by this effect battles, banished the opposing monster after the damage calculation, even if the "Rainbow Dragon" leaves the field.

So all three of us made it to the second round. Next time I’ll go deeper into the tournament and maybe even mention some of the other duelists. If they are good enough to be worth mentioning.
