Chapter 379: Abrupt Apology
The atmosphere in Nyx’s room was unusually soft. She and Alexandra sat cross-legged on the bed with mugs of hot chocolate between them.
For once, there was no tension, no need to posture.
"... And do you remember when we snuck out past curfew just to catch fireflies?" Nyx asked with her lips quirking upward, full of nostalgia. Alexandra’s eyes widened, then softened as if the memory had tugged her out of a dark pit. "Y-yeah... you tripped on that stupid root and dragged me down with you."
"You called me a ’chick who drank too much milk,’ namely, you called me a fatty," Nyx grinned.
Alexandra, of all people, giggled. Actually giggled.
"I... I did, didn’t I? Gods, I can still feel the dirt in my teeth."
The sound of her laughter was strange but precious. Every giggle, every shy smile chipped away at the extreme amounts of reservations she carried, letting her shoulders drop just a little lower.
"I don’t hear an apology, though," Nyx grinned.
"Apology? For what? I stand by what I said..." Alexandra replied slyly just before sipping another mouthful of chocolate while looking directly into Nyx’s eyes with a playful gaze.
Nyx narrowed her eyes. A smirk was tugging at the corner of her lips. "Is that so? Then let me help you not become a fatty like me."
