Chapter 310: Nyx’s Cry For Help
By the time they rolled into the bunker’s hidden garage, Aria was giggling again, stealing a quick kiss before hopping out of the car. She looped her arm around his neck for another one, deeper this time, before announcing she was going to call her mother. Kaiden watched her disappear down the hall, getting a final smell of her fragrant hair as she left.
He was about to follow after her when his phone buzzed in his pocket. He glanced at the caller ID.
Nyx.
Kaiden’s stomach dropped the instant her voice cut through the receiver.
Urgent. No-nonsense. No teasing edge.
"Kaiden! Basement!"
A chill sprinted down his spine. It was simply too much of a coincidence. The mission text, Maximilian’s name, the grotesque cruelty spelled out by the system... could it already be happening? His mind spun with possibilities, every one of them bad.
Was Maximilian moving pieces against them? A corporate strike against Valhalla’s Sinners? Or worse, had someone slipped past their defenses? The image of Nyx, helpless and cornered, made his blood boil.
His protective instincts flared white-hot. He didn’t think before he moved.
Boots pounding against the stairs, Kaiden tore through the hall with incredible urgency. Every muscle in his body thrummed with fight-or-flight, and fight was winning very one-sidedly. By the time he reached the basement door, he was so keyed up that he almost kicked it off the hinges.
