Chapter 14: The First Night
"I’ll be seeing you tonight. Be ready."
I felt my heart skip a beat as I watched Christian mouth the words from a distance.
He flashed a quick smile before following Morgan back to the main party area. The smile conveyed the seriousness of his earlier message. There was no ’maybe’ or ’if’, only power and decisiveness, stating them like a promise.
I leaned against the cold marble statue and looked up into the night sky. For the first time in my life, I felt like this— I felt alive.
The excitement from earlier was still coursing through my veins. We were so close to getting discovered, and by Morgan, too.
Sounds from the party filled the air, continuing as if nothing had happened.
I couldn’t help but curve my lips into a big smile as I continued to sit deep in the garden, feeling the cool breeze on my skin.
This is the best night of my life. And it seems like it’s only just started.
No matter how much time passed, I couldn’t seem to calm myself down from the excitement of seeing Christian later tonight. I would finally be making my own decisions and enjoying myself the way I want to.
I finally stood up and ran back inside the mansion, stealthily making it back to my room. The servants were all still preoccupied with the party and were mostly hanging around the kitchen area, making it easier for me to slip through.
