Chapter 27: That’s My Word To You!
Even though Zenith paused for a while, being lost in his contemplated thoughts, Marita continued chattering over the call as if she had taken quite a liking to talking with Zenith.
"Well, it’s just the same old story for poor people like us. Watching me struggle to meet our ends riled up his urge to become the strongest Alpha of the town since he was only 5. Could you believe it, that little boy went around the town, telling everyone that he would protect me from the world? Haha, that little fool!
"But since then, he pushed himself too hard in studies, and workouts, and even did every possible work to support me. Now...he has even gotten himself into the most prestigious Alpha Academy, but he didn’t want to leave me because he was worried about me using my life savings to pay for the tuition fees. Could you believe this?" Marita stated with a gentle smile.
However, Zenith stood frozen from the revelation of Kylian’s life, making him realize the depth of the mishap that had happened to Kylian! He was stunned to realize that the measly amount of 5 million dollars which he would often spend in a day at parties of branded clothes was something so important to Kylian that it cost him his mother’s life savings!
Until now, he had never bothered to look into the lives of people who belonged to poverty, but after his path entangled with Kylian, he replied coldly, "Did you spend your life savings to send him here?"
"Of course, sir. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have afforded to do it..." This time Marita’s voice sounded a bit glum when she also added, "You see I was unable to give my Kyle a lavish life since childhood, but he was such a happy child to take whatever I gave him. I agree that he’s quite stubborn sometimes, and he’s extremely protective of weak people if they are being harassed or bullied, but he has a gem of a heart, Sir.
"I was quite nervous to send him there in the Alpha academy...but if he has gotten such good people like you around him, then I can rest at ease here."
’So that’s why he was stubbornly protecting that Todor bastard from me, huh? Fuck! It has become more complicated than I ever imagined...’ Zenith exhaled a heavy sigh while deeply pondering in his mind after hearing the real reason behind Kylian’s stubbornness, however, it made him certain that things were about to get too hard between them from now onwards.
"Oh, I must have talked too much! I am sorry, for disturbing you at this late night, Sir, but I just wanted to wish Kyle on his birthday. But it’s fine he must be too tired already..."
"Wait...today’s his birthday?"
Zenith immediately caught her point, which made Marita chuckle a little as she answered, "Oh, yes, didn’t he tell you that? I knew he wouldn’t...that boy doesn’t easily open up to others about his real feelings. It’s his 19th birthday, but I am glad that you were by his side tonight. Thank you very much, Sir."
Feeling a strange kind of solace from Marita’s words, Zenith realized it was just how he had thought Kylian was very different from the other omegas, he must have inherited that trait from his kind mother.
