Chapter 428: Found Him
"What sort of nonsense are you saying?" Mr. Wallace’s voice thundered, his expression twisted with barely restrained anger.
Xander remained still, unfazed by the outburst. He had anticipated this reaction.
Samantha, who had been silently watching from beside him, glanced at Bruce, expecting him to intervene. But her father remained impassive, arms crossed, face unreadable. And he also gave her a few looks with meaning she completely understood. One, he was silently threatening her not to say anything and she understood it. Second, he was wondering why she’d come with Xander to Radiantia. She never travelled alongside with him before.
Xander knew his question had been too direct—blunt, even—but he didn’t care. His relationship with Mr. Wallace had always been strained, if it could even be called a relationship at all. Whether the man was truly innocent or not didn’t matter to him right now. He just wanted the truth.
"You heard me," Xander said, his tone unyielding.
Mr. Wallace took a deep breath, his fists clenching at his sides as he gnashed his teeth together.
"Can you even hear yourself? You’re accusing me of murder! Murdering someone I don’t even know?" His voice was laced with disbelief, but Xander’s sharp gaze caught the flicker of unease in his eyes. "Have you completely lost it or something?! How did you come up with such an accusation? Who put this idea into your head?" Mr. Wallace’s voice rose. "I am your father, Xander! For God’s sake, you think so little of me that you believe I could be a murderer?" His tone was laced with hurt this time around.
At this, Xander gave him a look—a cold, knowing look.
"And since when have you ever acted like a father to me?" His voice was quiet, but there was an undeniable edge to it.
Mr. Wallace’s jaw tightened.
"Yes, I made mistakes," he admitted. "I never acknowledged you the way I should have. But that doesn’t make me a murderer." He exhaled sharply, shaking his head. "Whatever grudge you have against me, it doesn’t justify throwing such baseless accusations around. I’m still your father afterall and I care about you."
Bruce snorted in his mind, resisting the urge to scoff out loud.
