Chapter 419: Home Sweet Home
Xavier’s body went rigid, his entire demeanor shifting. His fingers curled around the phone as his heartbeat pounded in his ears.
"Where?" he demanded.
"It was quick, but we caught a clear shot of him entering some restaurants."
Xavier frowned, unsure whether to trust Maxwell. He had been avoiding the hideout for days, and this sudden call felt suspicious. Was Maxwell genuinely reaching out, or was he trying to lure him back and extract information? If Maxwell was the informant, this could be a trap.
Maxwell has been his best friend since childhood and back then, he only exchanged a few words with Xander because the latter didn’t want to be connected with another nerd like Xavier.
When Arabella died, Maxwell never once believed Xavier was responsible. He stood by his side, unwavering in his loyalty, until Xavier was released from jail. That was why the chances of Maxwell being the informant seemed slim.
If he were the traitor, he would have sabotaged their operations long ago—creating chaos at every trade, making it impossible for Xavier to help the girls escape. Yet, there was always that lingering doubt. What if he had been playing the long game all along?
You can never know someone’s true intentions well.
"I’ll come check it tomorrow. It’s too late and I want to rest," Xavier replied. Which was the truth. After he and Anastasia travelled back to Radiantia from Fameville, they directly came to the Clark mansion for dinner, giving them no time to rest at all.
He glanced at Anastasia, her back was faced towards him as she stared at the beautiful city from their angle, a tiny smile on her face.
