Chapter 124: She Fell
Selene’s eyes widened, her mouth slightly agape, as she listened to Thalia’s narration.
This only meant Robert had not believed her when she made her first appearance, even after they had tried to find out her true identity by giving her an orange which she was allergic to.
"That man is truly evil," she commented. "But how have you been taking care of the orphanage all this while?" She asked.
Thalia’s father was Robert’s younger brother. Despite their shared prestigious family background, Thalia’s father lacked Robert’s wealth and was accustomed to following his elder brother’s every command.
Selene hadn’t been able to fund the orphanage after she bought the building, so she asked help from her cousin, Thalia and together, they became partners.
That was why Robert was able to get leverage over Selene when he threatened to demolish the orphanage if she didn’t listen to him. Thalia listened to her father and her father listened to Robert. Which was why she had no choice but to obey Robert’s every command in the past.
"I used up most of my savings to keep this place alive. Some of the children have been adopted by a good family, and that’s that," Thalia responded.
Selene couldn’t be glad that she had partnered with Thalia. Even though things had been tough for her, she didn’t abandon the children.
Immediately, Selene wired some money into Thalia’s account.
"You should use that to fix some things that need to be fixed. And use the rest to take care of yourself, Thalia," she said.
Thalia appreciated Selene for her kindness. The both of them decided to catch up on a few things, while Thalia teased Selene about having such a handsome husband.
