Chapter 669
Angelo woke up first, he hadn’t planned to fall asleep, but after being trapped by Nikolai, there was little else to do. His face was squished against the Mafia King’s shoulder when he opened his eyes and regained his bearings. Sometime while he slept, Nikolai had switched their positions, now he laid on him.
He lifted his head to see Nikolai still fast asleep, the Alpha’s arms wrapped tightly around him. He was so ridiculous, insisting on sleeping together in this cramped sofa when he could have simply moved them to the bed.
His view from the couch was limited, but he was able to see that the sun had gone down a while ago. Even though he was wide awake, Angelo didn’t move from his spot, lowering his head to rest on Nikolai’s shoulder again.
The Mafia King’s heartbeat was steady, even a little slow, like he was very deeply asleep. Angelo tried his best to focus on that calming beat and his pleasant, cool scent, and not their intimate positions.
They were closely pressed together, his legs resting on the couch in between both of Nikolai’s. Angelo very quickly hit his limit, he almost wished he could fall back asleep again, fighting the urge to squirm.
There was no telling how late it was now, he had thought that they could pay the casino a quick visit late in the afternoon, but that wasn’t going to happen anymore because he... they had slept right through it.
The television had been turned off some time ago, the lighting turned down low. Angelo found his thoughts drifting; he had grown attached to Nikolai after losing the chance to die, and for the first time, he found himself happy that he hadn’t.
He even had a wedding coming up, how exactly did people go around preparing for that? A bright smile came to mind, and he right away thought about Caspian; the Omega would certainly have an idea, and would probably be excited to help out.
Angelo lifted his eyes to look up at Nikolai, he still didn’t know what kind of wedding the Mafia King wanted. Personally, Angelo didn’t think he could do a grand, flashy wedding, he just wanted...
His thoughts trailed off, he had no idea what he wanted.
As if tired of his loud thoughts, Angelo felt more than heard his stomach rumble - pressed up against Nikolai as he was.
The arms around him tightened then, Nikolai burying his face in his hair with his eyes still closed. "Hungry?"
Angelo stiffened, a faint flush staining the bridge of his nose and the tip of his ears. Nikolai had woken up conveniently fast after the barely discernible noise of his stomach rumbling. "Let go." He grumbled, realizing that the Mafia King had been awake for a while now.
And here he was, tolerating their position so that Nikolai could sleep a little longer, meanwhile, the Mafia King hadn’t even been asleep to begin with. Nikolai’s arms tightening around him even further was expected, so he didn’t protest any further.
Nikolai soon loosened his hold, and Angelo got off the couch in one fluid movement, his hair tousled from having wandering hands in them all day. He stretched, still dressed in work clothes although he had taken off his knives right after he got home.
Angelo walked off to check the time, it was 8:08 PM. "Do you want to go out to grab dinner?" He asked, considering attempting to learn to cook something other than instant noodles.
From the look of things, they would just be lazing around indoors, it wasn’t like he would be doing much else, not with the extended break Nikolai was insistent on taking. So he might as well keep himself busy.
Nikolai half sat up, he had tossed aside his trenchcoat and was now wearing a dress shirt with the top buttons undone. He pushed a hand through his bedhead, dark blue eyes trailing Angelo’s every move. "A date."
Angelo glanced over his shoulder at Nikolai, not quite sure if that was a suggestion or a question. It made little difference anyway, regardless, they were still going to eat. "Sure." He agreed dryly, walking off to get ready.
He had planned to strap on some knives and wear the clothes he already had on out, but for a date, it seemed a little inappropriate. He went to his closet and threw it open, eyeing out the generous spread of clothes that Nikolai had gotten for him.
He picked out a shirt, the delicate satin looked more appropriate than the other options he could see. After picking out a shirt and tailored pants, he glanced down at himself. It wasn’t so late that he couldn’t take a shower before dinner, and he wouldn’t mind cleaning up before changing.
With a sweep of his wrist, he gathered up his clothes and left for the bathroom, locking in from within. A short while later, the door was unlocked, and he stepped out fully dressed while fiddling with his sleeves.
Nikolai was already dressed, his dark blond hair curling damply at the tips. "You locked me out." He said first thing, seated at the edge of the bed facing the door to the bathroom. "How was I supposed to shower?"
Angelo lifted his head and gave the Mafia King a onceover, there were several bathrooms in the house, he hadn’t been at all worried about that. He ignored the accusations leveled at him, walking over to Nikolai to hold out a hand to him.
The dress shirt he picked out had looked decent, but now that he had it on, he realized that it had too many ribbons. Two hung off each of his wrists, while untied, his long sleeves were loose and free, falling over his palms.
Two more were at the nape of his neck, there was only a little strip of skin behind, the ribbons attached to the collar giving the outfit a semblance of modesty.
Without even putting it on, he knew that there was no chance of fitting any weapons in the outfit. Maybe he should start taking a bag with him whenever they went out, somewhere to keep his knives.
