Chapter 664
Caspian made his way to Rae’s room, it had been roughly an hour since Asher kissed him goodbye, he no longer slept in like he always did.
Caring for the injured teenager gave him purpose, so although it was still fairly early in the morning, he went to see him first thing.
Jael had nothing to say about Rae at dinner, and Caspian didn’t quite know how to bring it up, so everything had gone unsaid.
He knocked lightly and then tentatively pushed open the door without waiting for a response. Rae was still recovering from a terrible injury so it was more than likely that he was still fast asleep, but Caspian had been worried.
Asher hadn’t let him out of his sight after they returned at dinnertime the day before, so he didn’t know how Rae had fared during the night.
Caspian paused at the doorway when he caught sight of the injured teenager sitting up listlessly in bed. "I’m sorry for barging in," He apologized quietly. "I didn’t want to interrupt your sleep."
Rae glanced over at him, his blond hair tousled. "It’s fine."
"How do you feel?" Caspian asked in concern, closing the distance to get a proper look at him.
"Much better."
The conversation stalled a bit between them, there was little to say. Caspian might have bargained for Rae to stay until he got better, but he was still a temporary guest.
"Are you hungry?"
"Not right now," He turned down the offer, looking like he would like his space.
Caspian gave it to him, readying to take his leave. "Alright, I’ll have someone check again in a few hours."
"No need to," Rae refused, "I can walk just fine."
If it were any other time, he would have already been up and out but he had stayed in bed, hoping that Jael would come see him. But it was already the second night, and the only people who had come in to see him were Mafia King Asher’s mate and the disapproving doctor.
"Right," Caspian remembered that it was an arm injury, taking his leave. There were things he had to do after all.
He wanted to get his driver’s license before the year came to an end, but he knew he had hit his limit with his bodyguards. If he dragged them out to let him practise his driving on the road again, Asher would get involved.
So he decided to take matters into his own hands.
It wasn’t snowing that morning, but the skies were a light gray, faint sunlight peeking through. It was a cold winter morning.
He covered up properly, layering up and even throwing a scarf around his neck. He had his breakfast alone, Patty was busy balancing the books, but he didn’t mind, using the silence to think.
After his breakfast, he rang up Jael, the call connecting almost instantly.
"What’s up?" The Beta’s familiar voice came through the phone.
"I’m bored, I want to go to one of Asher’s shooting ranges." Caspian complained lightly.
There was a brief silence on the phone, and one could almost picture Jael cocking a brow. "Does Asher know?"
"I didn’t want to bother him," Caspian said with a small smile.
There was another short silence, "I’m not going to stop you." Jael said bluntly.
Caspian knew that, Jael had even been the one to teach him the basics of guns. But he could also hear the unspoken bit, Jael wouldn’t stop him, but Asher likely would.
"Then I’m off," He beamed, hanging up.

Jael glanced at his phone, frowning, he had to report this to Asher. He couldn’t figure out what Caspian was up to, but it couldn’t be anything good.
He went around to the back, slipping into Asher’s office without so much as a knock. It was still early in the morning, so there was a lull as everyone prepared for a new day.
In charge of the nightlife, there was a lot for Asher to do when morning rolled around, considering the Mafia King was always by his mate’s side at sundown.
"Caspian called." He said bluntly.
That snagged and held the Alpha’s attention, his dark red hair down around his face.
"Said he was bored and wanted to go to a shooting range."
Asher frowned, sitting up. "What did you tell him?"
Jael shrugged, "That I wasn’t going to stop him, it’s one of your ranges." He tagged on although he might as well be slapping a band-aid on a gunshot wound, the Mafia King was already antsy.
"Which one?"
Jael parted his lips to remind him that he had files and a line of people waiting to see him, but then swallowed back his words. Caspian had to have seen this coming, knowing that if he had called Asher directly, he would have been turned down.
"Find out yourself." He tossed to him, going out to get a task or two done before he had to drive Asher over to Caspian.
It didn’t take long before the Mafia King was striding out of the club, his fur coat billowing around him.
Jael was already in the car, waiting for Asher to get in, his composed expression giving nothing away.
"It’s too cold for him to be out," Asher began unprompted as the club was left behind.
"Right," Jael said dryly, wondering why Asher was making excuses to him. He also didn’t think that Caspian was suited to the Mafia, but the Omega was free to make his choices.
"He said he was bored? Maybe I could go home earlier..." The Alpha kept muttering.
Jael tuned him out at that point, he doubted that was what Caspian wanted, but he wasn’t butting in.
Right then, things were so tense that this old argument was almost a nice change of pace. He would take Asher and Caspian bickering any day to an attack from the High Council or his Mafia King flipping out.
"Or I could outfit a game room for him..." Asher went on, taking it far more seriously than the tasks he had ditched for this.
