Chapter 39: + - 39+
"Are we heading back to the mansion?" Jael asked, starting up the car.
"No, there’s still something I need to do."
Jael snuck glances at Asher as he drove out of the parking lot. A few days ago the Alpha was eager to get back to the mansion, canceling appointments without a second thought.
He didn’t pry, Asher often liked to play with his sexual partners like a predator plays with their food. His job was to step in when things started to go to shit.
So he made no comments when he was directed to drive Asher to his penthouse, a place he hadn’t been in since his father left Haines.
He also didn’t protest when he was sent off, Asher was right, he had too much on his plate to play babysitter.
He couldn’t be blamed for wanting to do that though, Asher managed to get into the most troublesome situations without even trying.
Jael still found himself curious about what amicable settlement Asher had reached with Nikolai. That coming from those two could be anything from a fight to the death to an all-out war.
Asher got into the elevator, leaning against the metal walls with his hands in his pockets. What the fuck was he doing here?
It had seemed like a great idea at first, burn off some steam so he wouldn’t act like a wild beast when he saw Caspian.
But now that he was going back to the apartment that housed fears he would rather not face, he was starting to think that maybe it wasn’t the best of ideas.
