Chapter 88: Flightless Bird
Nick’s expression was grim after Mijko filled him in on everything he had missed, including Tair’s disappearance. It had just been a few days, but so much had happened.
"Is Sosora doing alright?" Mijko had only mentioned that Sosora had injured her eyes in a fight and had lost her vision. Naturally, she wasn’t doing alright. But Nick was confident that if anyone could push through, it would be her.
Mijko just slowly shook her head.
Nick wasn’t exactly wrong. Sosora was strong-willed like an iron fortress. But there was one thing he hadn’t considered.
She was a member of the Aer tribe.
If she had been from any of the other tribes, she would have been handling it a lot better. She still wouldn’t be able to see, but she could rely on other senses like smell, touch, and hearing.
But what made Sosora a member of the Aer tribe was the ability to fly. It was half her identity.
And in the air, there was nothing to touch. There was nothing to smell. Sound was distorted by the wind if it was too far away.
All members of the Aer tribe relied on their sight almost exclusively when flying. When they were up in the sky, it was the only thing that would give them any useful information. It was the only sense that would let them fly as free as birds.
It was like taking the front legs from a frog. It could still jump, but without the two legs up front to control the jump, it would just slide across the ground and crash head-first into the first solid object around.
Flying blind was impossible.
