Chapter 77: Why
Nick looked at the sleeping Nuir. He had bundled him up and let him sleep on the couch during the night. Nick wasn’t worried about Nuir trying to leave since the tentacle could stop him. The worry he had was how Nuir would react to the tentacle.
Fortunately, it seemed like Nuir hadn’t tried anything.
It even looked like he had slept through the night without so much as moving from the spot.
But the sausages and stir-fried vegetables Nick had put on the table beside him were gone.
"Good to know that your appetite’s fine, kid," Nick said as he walked past the ’sleeping’ Nuir and into the kitchen to grab something to drink. He barely managed to resist the urge to ruffle the tuft of hair sticking out from under the blanket.
The basement door was closed.
Nick grabbed three plates and filled them with food from yesterday before popping them into the microwave one at a time. While they were spinning around to the humming sound, Nick took the opportunity to check on what he had left out for the Midnight Panther.
As expected, the pots and pans were licked clean, and there was no trace of the sausages he had left behind. The vegetables were untouched, though.
Nick wasn’t surprised. Cats were carnivores, after all. They didn’t eat vegetables. He grabbed everything and filled the sink with dishes.
