Chapter 69: Ghost Mijko
Nick looked up from stirring the vegetables in the wok to see that the tentacle had withdrawn at some point and hidden in the basement. He turned around to Mijko, who had snuck into the house after smelling something delicious. Spurred by her hunger, she dared to enter the abode of the Outsider.
Her eyes were wide with wonder at the glimpse into another civilization. She couldn’t understand half of what she was looking at, but it was amazing. And then, she heard Nick talking, which caught her attention. She looked at him curiously. She didn’t see anyone else around.
Nick raised an eyebrow.
He was a little curious about how Mijko would react to the tentacle, but now wasn’t the time for that.
He was a little surprised that more hadn’t seen it since it seemed like he had been watched pretty diligently. Or maybe he was just imagining it, and he hadn’t been watched that diligently before the incident with Sosora.
"The ghosts of people who entered my dwelling in search of something to quell their hunger but found nothing but eternal rest instead," He answered nonchalantly.
Mijko froze. She looked at Nick with a serious expression, doing her best to control her fear.
"That’s...That’s not funny, Nick."
"I wasn’t trying to be funny."
