Chapter 55: Long Meeting
Muhso’s grandiose speech about the past and the age of discovery had made everyone curious about the package. So, when he finally opened it to reveal its contents, they leaned forward to try and get a better look at what hid beneath the leaf.
Sosora had a good angle, and she was stunned when she saw it. She was the only one in the room, other than Muhso, of course, who immediately knew what it was.
It was a sausage.
Others weren’t sure, but they could smell it. The leaf wrapped around it had isolated it, locking up a delectable aroma that now filled the meeting hall. It was even slightly warm still.
Sosora could imagine it.
Muhso hadn’t been the last to arrive at the meeting because he wanted to make an impression. It was because he had been waiting for the sausage.
The representatives from the Jakka and Vedel tribes looked intently at the sausage. Their noses were sensitive. It smelled like meat, but more delicious. They could faintly smell the scent of herbs and similar things that they sometimes added when cooking. They were curious.
"What is it?" Ugrid didn’t beat around the bush and asked directly. She could faintly smell it. She could barely see it. She could not tell what it was.
"It is a gift from the Outsider, a blessing bestowed upon us." Muhso grabbed a knife as if he had been expecting everyone’s interest, and cut the sausage into ten tiny slices. He was tempted to make eleven and take one for himself, but then they would be too small for the others to get a proper taste.
