Chapter 433: What an asshole
The dual press conferences went without a hitch, and the point was made. Across the city, and internationally.
Uncle Tom had fucked up, and the S Classes that were ’listening’ to him, were breaking their chains. They had also selected the person that they wanted to take his place.
It was surprisingly peaceful after that had been announced and Uncle Tom? Well, it turned out that he wasn’t on the front lines anymore. Had probably escaped during the fuss with the general store. That was the theory at least, since Sergei and Sakura’s people had been looking for him with a vengeance.
Rhys didn’t appear to be too worried. Nor was Kellen’s Mom or Dad. They all seemed to know that he was going to come back, especially since he had left his wife behind. His precious wife, who Kellen’s Mom had made sure to bring her to the tower to keep her safe, while also letting her know what he had been up to.
His wife was horrified at the treatment of Kellen. She was even more horrified after Rhys had had a conversation with her in private, and through her tears, she apologised on behalf of her husband and was willing to help them bring him to justice.
Kellen was pretty upset on her behalf that Uncle Tom could just leave her behind. As was his parents. The man had no idea what it was like to have an imprint, but he had watched lots of his employees, ’friends’ and others around him care for the people they had selected as life partners. The fact that his wife knew nothing about what he had been up to?
Terrible. Awful. He might have gained a small amount of respect back from everyone if she had known, but the fact that she was blindsided by his actions? That was another mark against him. He was treating her as if she was disposable, even though they had been married for 20 years.
Everyone was disgusted with his behaviour, but Kellen could tell that everyone wanted him to be associated with the E.A.G. so that this betrayal could feel justified in some way. Kellen could tell that people were getting upset the more that they dug and the more they were unable to find a connection except for the most recent one.
Kellen just shrugged. Uncle Tom was a classic case of a power hungry man, not necessarily a bigot in the same way as the E.A.G. He just took advantage of a situation where what he needed and what they needed aligned for a heartbeat, and then he fled.
