Chapter 394: We both need a little distraction (m)
Kellen kept to himself until they made it back to the Guild. Pulling into the parking spot that he had pulled out of, Kellen let out a deep, deep sigh.
"I’m sorry that it happened." Kellen spoke up for the first time in a while, and everyone paused. They had been about to leave the car, and from his Mom’s mildly shocked expression as she was taking off her seatbelt, she had assumed Kellen wouldn’t speak to them again.
"It’s okay, honey. It just means...we need to be more cautious than we thought." His Mom told him, giving him a tight smile. Rhys let out a sigh, shaking his head.
"And I thought you two might come to me asking to leave after you came back." He joked, before smiling at them. "With that said, you are more than welcome to stay for as long as you need. Forever, if you want. I would never kick you out." Rhys’ words held sincerity to them and Kellen’s Dad reached over from where he was sitting behind Kellen and took Rhys’ hand.
"Thank you, Rhys. It’s very kind of you to offer us that." Kellen felt like he could hear that there was more to that sentence, but his Dad didn’t say anything else. He just smiled. He turned to Kellen, giving his shoulder a squeeze. "We should head up and get some rest. We’ll see you in the morning. We should talk now that we’re all back, with Gwen as well." Kellen nodded, and his Mom leaned forward and kissed his cheek.
"Thank you for coming to pick us up." She said warmly, before the two of them left the car. Kellen felt like he was still reeling from his own thoughts when Rhys reached out, touching Kellen’s cheek.
"Sugar? You look unwell. Did you think of something that hurt you while you were driving?" Kellen flinched. He was very much on the nose of the issue, and Rhys chuckled. "That sounds like you did. Did you want to talk about it?" Kellen shook his head.
"No. Not yet. I...I don’t want to keep it from you, but I need some time to process it." Rhys frowned, scanning Kellen’s face.
"Okay. Is it going to hurt you? Or me?" Kellen wasn’t so sure.
