(BL) Hunting The Field Guide

Chapter 297: Don’t blame the one who didn’t get shot

Taylor looked like she’d been through it when Kellen and Rhys showed up at her office door. They were going to head to the room where they normally had their sessions, but Rhys stopped Kellen, halting him near the door.

When they had knocked and Taylor opened the door, her hair was up in a bun, the dark circles around her eyes were worse, and her clothes were messy. Her blue eyes looked dull, and she looked like even if she slept for a full day, it wouldn’t mean a thing.

"Is it time?" She asked, exhausted and Kellen frowned.

"I don’t-can someone else monitor the session?" He asked and Taylor sighed.

"They aren’t in a better state than I am. Honestly, I didn’t think that the Guide shortage would affect us as hard as it is, but here we are. We’ll be fine soon. I just..." Taylor took a deep breath in, her eyes lightening to the green shade of her powers. "I really need a good Guide." Kellen felt his cheeks warm at the undertone of that statement.

Rhys chuckled.

"Well, we’ll make sure that your team is the priority. Should be any day now. Have you visited the few Guides who came from Guiding Center B?" He asked carefully as she turned and started gathering the few things she needed for their session. She shook her head.

"No. I let the rest of my team begin to harass them. If you could have the Espers fucking behave like adults, that would be great, honestly." Taylor grumbled, and Kellen smiled.

"I doubt that’s going to happen, but you can keep wishing." Kellen said, and Taylor shot him a narrow-eyed look.

"You’re on my bad list too, sir. I’ll need a full session before I can tackle that bruise and your leg. Even what I took from you today wasn’t enough. I’m just hoping that I have good compatibility with whoever comes in." She said and Kellen nodded.

There was a reason that Kellen had a huge chip on his shoulder when it came to his poor compatibility. The worst part was that it came from his time in school. They are always testing, always prodding, always pushing when you’re in school after you awaken. Kellen was labeled a low compatibility Guide before he’d even started his first job.
