(BL) Hunting The Field Guide

Chapter 253: Just a day in the life

Kellen was all smiles, warm and welcoming as he led the anxious child towards the Medical Bay. Brent was the same, and for some reason, that seemed to comfort the young man that they were bringing in. Some of the other Guides who saw him gave him pitying looks, and it was clear that he had no idea why.

It had nothing to do with Kellen and Brent, honestly, and everything to do with the Healer Espers who resided in the Medical Bay. They were...a little more rough and tumble. Harsher around the edges.

Still caring, just, if you had done it to yourself? Or someone else had done a severe level of harm to you?

There was a reason Kellen was good friends with Taylor.

So, Kellen and Brent brought the kid to them, and when one of the Healers saw him, their whole face went white. Thankfully, they recovered quickly, put in the emergency call for Taylor, and went about getting the kid to undress for him so that he could see the state of his body.

Kellen knew that at least one of them, Brent or Kellen, had to go back and teach the class that they had planned, but it was clear that neither one of them wanted to leave the kid alone. That, and the kid grew anxious whenever one of them shifted behind him.

Both of the Field Guides remained standing, arms crossed, near the door. Silent, but loud protectors. It wasn’t necessary, given the way that when any Healer saw him, their eyes turned green. It wasn’t something that either Kellen or Brent could stop. Not after Brent had hung out and been trained by Kellen.

Kellen hated shit like this.

How many other Guides did he know that got taken advantage of like this? Maybe not this level, but it was never something pleasant to be faced with. In fact, Kellen called Rene, and had the healers tending to the kid to take photos.

The kid just went along with it, guzzling down the cookies and cream shakes handed to him with a fervor that told him and everyone around him that even his basic food intake had been restricted. Kellen wanted to break something, he was so angry. Guiding Center C was going to have a cultural flip if there was anything he could do about it.

Rene, for her part, didn’t ask why Kellen was contacting her, and instead got to business. Because she was affiliated with the Nemesis Guild, she would have to let Pamela, or Captain Thatcher know that he had contacted her and planned to hire her as a contractor of sorts.
