Chapter 159: An unwinnable challenge
Rhys pulled away, sucking on Kellen’s tongue as he did and Kellen sighed, opening his eyes to meet his gaze. The warmth he felt from his gaze filled that part of him which had been afraid and scared that Rhys was leaving him behind. He hadn’t even realised that he had been so worried about it, but now that they had tentatively broached the topic...
Yeah. He had been afraid. Kellen had been terrified.
Not that he would find someone else, but that he was going to leave him behind.
"Hey, what’s up with that expression, huh? I’m right here. Did you want a deeper kiss?" Unable to voice anything past the crippling fear in his chest, Kellen nodded, and Rhys didn’t hesitate to kiss him senseless. The feeling of him pressed against him, their breaths mingling, his touch against his skin, soothed a part of him that had awakened with a vengeance. Kellen felt himself slowly calming down.
He continued to kiss him even after the fear had left, wanting to enjoy his touch even more. The Captain was the one who pulled away, tenderly tucking Kellen’s hair behind his ears. "Do you feel better?" He asked, pressing kisses against the corners of his mouth and his top lip, before pulling his bottom lip into his mouth and gently biting. Kellen blinked slowly, before nodding.
"Sorry." Kellen murmured, slightly embarrassed and Rhys chuckled.
"Never apologise for wanting comfort. I am always glad to give it." He told him, holding Kellen softly, as if he was the world to him. More of his uneasiness faded.
"I’m just not used to you offering me comfort." Kellen told him. Rhys frowned at his words, before softening his expression.
"Well, I can’t argue with that. We haven’t been a pair for long, so I will be gracious and allow you time to get used to it." His tone was haughty, but it was the way his eyes sparkled that gave him away. Kellen felt his body relax further as he chuckled.
