Chapter 110: She wouldn’t have made it up, would she?
When Kellen finally made it to their side, he noticed that Gunther had a bruise forming on his face. Stunned, Kellen turned his gaze towards the S Class Captain of the Saturn Guild, but he was unrepentant. He smiled at Kellen, his eyes crinkling up at the corners as his yellow eyes stared down at him.
"That was a rather exciting sparring session. What do you and your sister practise? I don’t think I’ve seen that exact martial art before." Kellen shrugged at the Captain’s question, but he was slightly suspicious. As far as he knew, the Captain hadn’t really been watching. He’d had his back turned.
"I have no idea. Mom taught it both to Gwen and I when we were young. Neither one of us had manifested yet, but we had a lot of energy and needed to get it out. From what she taught us, it’s purely defensive and not meant to harm others, only escape." Hill seemed impressed.
"It was amazing to see it in full motion. Is that the fastest you two can do it together?" She asked, clearly interested, and Kellen shrugged again.
"Whenever we move faster than that it gets a little messy and our forms aren’t perfect, so we try not to. It’s something Mom drilled into us. If our forms aren’t perfect, it doesn’t count. Redo it. Either way, I’m covered in dirt and water, so I think that’s all for my workout today. I have a big day tomorrow." He gave a small smile.
Kellen turned and grabbed his shirt that he had tossed to the side, and glanced back at them. He had hoped that he would have broken the tension between the three of them, but it didn’t appear that he had. Obviously, the Captain was pissed at Gunther for allowing someone to get hurt, but in fairness to him, Kellen knew he was a little bit reckless. He should have stopped himself, and didn’t. But at the same time, he felt it was a good learning experience for the new recruits. Dangerous situations could happen to anyone.
"So let me get this straight, your Mom basically made that up as far as you’re concerned?" She seemed incredibly impressed. "I think I’ll have to talk to her about this. Are you planning to teach the new Field Guides this as well?" Hill asked and Kellen shrugged again.
"That will depend on how they do tomorrow. The only Guide who Brent and I know we need to have up to snuff is Bree, so everyone else will have to show that they actually want to be there tomorrow for us to take them seriously." Kellen pulled on his shirt, glancing at the Captain before speaking again.
"Have you had a chance to meet Bree yet?" Hill asked, and Kellen nodded.
