Chapter 123: Something Wrong
Naomi stilled, taken aback by his words. He didn’t mean that... right? The words hung in the air, unsettling her as her mind raced to process their weight.
She stared at him, her breath hitching. She couldn’t help but wonder—why had he said that? The seriousness in his voice earlier had made her heart race with both surprise and a flicker of curiosity. It felt like he was revealing something more than what was on the surface, but she couldn’t figure it out yet.
Their gazes locked, and the room fell into an unnerving silence. She wanted to speak, to ask him what he meant, but the words wouldn’t come. The moment seemed too fragile, too delicate for anything as trivial as a question.
Finally, she swallowed the lump in her throat and whispered, "Good morning." The words felt weak and insignificant, but at least they broke the silence. She needed to break it. Anything to fill the space between them.
"Good morning, Eaglet...." As if something clicked he spoke hurriedly. "Let’s go."
Before she could process his words, Zylan swiftly sat up, his movements deliberate, as though he had already decided on something—something she wasn’t quite privy to. His urgency was unlike him, and it sent a ripple of uncertainty through Naomi’s chest. She stared at him, her thoughts racing to catch up.
"Where are we going?" she asked, surprised by his sudden shift in behavior. His tone had been sharp, almost....hurried.
"Let’s just go. I’ll explain later."
His voice had a strained edge, and the words sounded like they were from someone else. Someone Zylan didn’t usually let show. What had changed? Naomi couldn’t shake the feeling that something deeper was going on—something important. But what.
There was a deep, barely contained intensity in his voice, a sense of urgency that caught her off guard. She watched him with growing confusion as he moved toward the see-through wardrobe, pulling out a matching set of clothes.
Naomi furrowed her brow. Zylan Reed—always calm, collected, and composed—was now rushing. Why? Her mind tried to piece the puzzle together, but the fragments weren’t making sense. This wasn’t the man she knew. The man she knew wouldn’t act like this without a reason.
