Chapter 16: A Knife’s Edge
Rose’s eyes widened at his words. What was wrong with this man? Her hands trembled as she glanced at her knife. Was he trying to distract her? Then he laughed before speaking. "You don’t have to worry. Your friend is perfectly fine."
"And why should I believe you?" Rose spat, her voice dripping with anger and coldness.
Rylan just stared at her, unfazed. "I don’t really care if you believe me or not. All I know is that she’s fine. She’s with her husband-to-be."
"You f*cking idiot! You don’t have the right to say that! Naomi is being forced against her will."
At that, Rylan laughed again, a low, mocking sound. "Last I checked, you said your name was Naomi."
Rose bit down on her lower lip, a mix of frustration and confusion swelling within her. Did he just use psychological manipulation on her? What game was he trying to play? She wasn’t in the mood for this; it was obvious she had exposed herself. She was not Naomi.
"You know what I’m talking about," she shot back, her tone sharp. "Don’t try to divert the question. Where is Naomi?"
He laughed again, his amusement unsettling.
"You guys are forcing her against her will," Rose said, her anger palpable.
