Chapter 1181: Meg’s Most Dangerous Trial - Lying Low!
Nurmengard Castle Ruins.
Lord Voldemort’s boundless rage had met a wall.
Presently, he was standing far atop a charred pillar, staring up at the seven stars, all pulsating with the hues of a rainbow.
Then there was Lord Black Phoenix, seated on the broken steps leading to the main hall of the ruined castle. His youthful, bearded face carried a nasty blankness as he clenched and unclenched the gloved fingers of his fake left hand.
Watching the two of them from the open ground, Meg had the impression that she was observing two world-ending storms that had yet to cross the horizon.
"Aren’t you concerned?"
Meg looked over her shoulder and found Herpo the Foul’s Inferius Horcrux staring back at her, maggots crawling out from the eye sockets of his skull.
The Lord of Azkaban was as mighty as either of the other two Characters.
However, unlike the Dark Lord and Dumbledore, he was unique.
If it hadn’t been for his existence tethered to Herpo the Foul, then Ekrizdis would have truly stood a chance of becoming an Above-the-Pillar entity.
Still, no matter his uniqueness, Ekrizdis would never reach those heights.
It was because of this that Death had chosen him as His pawn to deal with Herpo the Foul.
It was also because of Death that, despite being illogically more powerful than the Yellow Warlock, Ekrizdis continued to take orders from him.
And Meg feared that the moment the Lord of Azkaban learned it was not the Yellow Warlock under the yellow hood, he would take an extreme step in anger.
Forget Ekrizdis, Meg dared not think how Dumbledore would react if he sensed the Unbreakable Vow’s connection that she shared with him.
Worse, Voldemort’s evolved powers had stemmed from Kai’s direct meddling.
If the Dark Lord were to boast of that fact to her face, asking for more of this power to get out this messy situation, then what would she reply to him with?
For now, the Cloak of Disguise was working as a godsend for her, Meg knew.
The prime role of the Artifact, gifted to her Master by Death Himself, was to mask the fluctuations of laws and concepts around a Contestant, resonating them with those of a particular Bubble, so that no one could tell if the person wearing the cloak was a Contestant or a Character.
It even worked in the case of existences that were neither Contestants nor Magical Creatures, like Black.
Meg still didn’t know what Black actually was.
A clone?
A result of His Majesty’s vast Skills?
Perhaps a form he had assumed as a result of his Glitch?
Meg had always remained curious, but she dared not pry for the truth, knowing the consequences.
Presently, she must tread the troubled waters carefully.
His Majesty was still out in the world, fighting against the Pillars’ invasion.
The Echoes in her mind were still there, but they had stopped receiving direct instructions from the parent AI.
Which meant she must be very careful about how she behaved and responded.
It was less to do with Ekrizdis, Dumbledore, and Voldemort realizing that she was not the Yellow Warlock, and more to do with the Order of the Immortal Lotus keeping an eye on this place.
Any mistake on her part would expose His Majesty, ruining everything.
Meg was beyond sure that Kai must have already thought of a way out of this mess.
Even then, with so many eyes on Darcie and Black, His Majesty would have to think about how to proceed a hundred times over.
Who knew how much time it would take?
An hour?
A day?
Perhaps... more?
Meg knew this trial was the most dangerous one of her life.
Ironically, it wasn’t her life at stake; it was Kai’s plans, which were more important than the lives of all the White Serpent Pirates combined.
The only fortunate thing about all this was that Meg was already more than proficient in posing as people and creatures because of her Origami Creation Ability.
In the Primordial Tower, if it weren’t for the Faceless Men of Byagoona, then she would have come out on top in the field of subterfuge.
My biggest advantage is that Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Ekrizdis have already accepted me as the Yellow Warlock because of His Majesty conversing with them through the Echoes, Meg thought. All I need to do is maintain the status quo until the Bounded Field over Nurmengard Castle disappears...
So, knowing full well how Kai would have responded to Ekrizdis’s question, the top-level 9th Floor Contestant said, "Concerned... for what?"
"..." Ekrizdis chewed on a maggot.
Meg looked away as the Lord of Azkaban fell into thoughtful contemplation, thinking that Death must have shared some details with the Yellow Warlock beforehand.
Men... Morning Mist slightly shook her head. Hurting their ego always does the trick...
She walked away from the walking corpse and sat down on one of the four chairs regally, continuing to create origami under the Cloak of Disguise.
Meg had lost years’ worth of preparations against Darth Kars.
It wasn’t her three Magical Creatures that represented most of her strength.
It was the fact that she was the grand-disciple of a Legendary Sannin, with the ability to flatten worlds with sheer numbers.
Moreover, His Majesty had promised her a Main Mission in the Mirror timeline of the Naruto Bubble; the timeline where it had all begun for her.
Meg still had the Multiverse ID of that timeline.
It would be her first time returning to the Naruto Bubble proper ever since she had fallen from the 13th Floor.
Once she reconnected with Mistress Konan there...
A smile bloomed on Meg’s face as she thought of regaining the strength she had once possessed in her prime.
Combined with what she had already achieved since restarting her journey from the 1st Set, she was sure that she would be able to serve His Majesty better.
Perhaps, then... Meg, carrying the slightest blush on her cheeks, was about to lose herself completely in joyous thoughts when the seven-colored stars overhead shone with a brilliant, blinding radiance.
And when that blindness receded...
... three figures were hovering under the stars, their power choking the life out of her!
