Chapter 203: Bitter truth (3)
"It’s not worth all the troubles we face these days. We had a simple life outside of Lockwood thanks to your father’s work. I wanted to keep all of you away from this kind of life, but now you are tangled in it. We should have left," Melanie said, regretting she stayed.
Life was miserable since they returned to Lockwood.
Melody shook her head, failing to grasp her mother’s words. They stayed because her mother had another life here. It was closer to where Melanie’s parents were when they were alive.
They were to be making up for the time Melanie missed with Alessandra.
Melody touched her forehead. "You must give me a moment. You didn’t answer what I asked you. Do you want her now? Have you ever wanted her since the moment she was born, mother?"
Melody had sympathy for her mother in regards to being forced to have a child, but Alessandra was innocent in the matter. How could her mother look at Alessandra and not have wanted her?
Was this why Melanie found it easy to abandon Alessandra?
"Mother!"
"Oh, stop your whining. I gave you all my love from the moment you were born. I loved you because I wanted you. You are my heart and soul. I cannot feel that way for a child I never wanted," Melanie said, tired of pretending.
Melanie wanted to go back to the good old days when it was just her and the family she cared for. There was too much she had to face since she came back to Lockwood.
"I gave her father what he wanted, so he was meant to take care of her. I only wanted to be a mother when I found your father. I don’t feel anything when I look at her. She doesn’t feel like my child," Melanie explained her feelings.
