Chapter 47: Embarrassing (1)
In the Kennedy home, Kate sat alone in her room on a chair placed by the window so she could look outside. A book on her lap, which she was meant to read, remained closed since she had no use for it.
Kate wished Noah would stop trying to get her to do pointless things she didn’t care for. She didn’t want to sit by a window and watch people walking around, but since she could not move, she had no other choice.
Kate didn’t want to read the book, but each time she moved it, the silly maid would place it back on her lap.
Kate was certain they were all mocking her, enjoying that she could not move without their help. They couldn’t do this to her before when she was in her prime and under her father’s care.
"Miss Kate-"
"It is Lady Kate," Kate said, taking the same book she wasn’t fond of to throw at Mary. "You don’t address me as I have instructed you. I should fire you."
Mary picked up the book Kate threw. By now, she was used to Kate’s outburst. "I apologise, Lady Kate. I came to inform you that Mr Kennedy is home. Should I help you down?"
Kate glared at the rude young woman. She knew Mary had a cunning nature to her since she smiled more and acted innocent when Noah was around.
"I don’t want you touching me," Kate replied, looking away from Mary.
