Wealthy Beauty in the 60s

Chapter 387 - 389: Holding Two at Once

Both children were terrified by the quarrel. Sun Yuhua roughly picked up Weilin and went back to the room; Weilin struggled and cried reluctantly.

Xia Xiao heard the sound of Sun Yuhua hitting the child next door and Weilin’s crying. She sighed, took the two children, and slowly walked out of the house towards Youth Point.

"Hold me, hold me." Just as they had started tremblingly stepping out, Feiyang and Feiyue didn’t want to walk anymore, probably tired as well.

Seeing that both children wanted to be held, Xia Xiao instantly sweated.

She had never carried both at once, but now neither child wanted to continue walking on their own. Xia Xiao had no choice but to squat down, pick up one child with each hand, and let them lean on her shoulders. As she carried them, she felt their considerable weight.

By the time Xia Xiao, gasping for breath, reached Xia Jing’s place with the two children, Xia Jing exclaimed, "Sis, you’re amazing, carrying two at once!"

Xia Xiao set the children down and let out a heavy sigh, "They didn’t want to walk, so I had to carry them."

Xia Jing picked up Feiyue and took him inside, laughing, "They’re still little. It would be great if my future kids could be as adorable as Feiyang and Feiyue."

Xia Xiao also brought Feiyang inside. Yan Hao had gone to work, and Xia Jing was alone in the dormitory. Xia Xiao said, "Maybe I should just bring the children over to keep you company from now on."

"What’s wrong, sis?" Xia Jing asked.

Xia Xiao shook her head, "Nothing much, just had a fight with Yuhua."

Surprised, Xia Jing asked, "Why did you fight?"

Xia Xiao then described how she had been worried about leaving the children alone, and upon returning, found Sun Yuhua had locked the crying child in the room. This thought saddened any mother’s heart greatly thinking of her young child locked away.

Xia Jing said, "It was right to argue. Sun Yuhua feels aggrieved by doing some chores, thinking she’s done something tremendous. No matter how much you do, she takes it for granted."

Xia Xiao patted the children’s heads and said, "I didn’t fully understand her before, but being co-sisters-in-law for these two years, I’ve come to realize that she’s discontent."

Pouting, Xia Jing whispered, "To put it unpleasantly, she still acts like she’s a lady from the city. She’s been settled in the production team for many years and still can’t face reality. It’s also because she married into the Gao family, where the team leader, the elder and Brother Gao, are all honest and uncomplaining types. If the elder were like Li Shengmei or if Sun Yuhua had married someone fiercer, you’d see her straightened out long ago."

"Let’s not talk about her anymore. Have you eaten? I’ll go cook," said Xia Xiao, feeling the children’s flat bellies and standing up.

Xia Jing shook her head, smiling, "It’s great that you’re here, sis. I’ve yet to make lunch, was thinking of going to the cafeteria later."

"That’s fine, then. You watch over Feiyang and Feiyue; I’ll cook," Xia Xiao went to prepare the meal while Xia Jing kept the boys beside her, chatting with Xia Xiao.

Xia Xiao made a simple vegetable porridge, added some spring water and seasoning, and everyone just ate.

Feiyang and Feiyue weren’t picky eaters. Since weaning, they’d eat whatever was given, and Xia Xiao was quite pleased.

Xia Jing was even less picky, tasting it and saying, "Sis, your cooking is delicious."

Xia Xiao laughed, "It’s just vegetable porridge." The spring water wasn’t a seasoning, and she wasn’t focused on making the food delicious; it was good enough that everyone had something to eat and could feel full.

Xia Xiao looked at Xia Jing and said, "You don’t have much here, it’s indeed troublesome. I’ll bring you some sweet potatoes tomorrow. You can cook some sweet potato porridge or sometimes make corn soup, which isn’t bad."

Xia Jing shook her head, "Sister, no need to trouble yourself, I’ll just eat at the big dining hall."

Xia Xiao thought eating at the big dining hall was fine, so she nodded.

After sleeping over at Xia Jing’s place in the afternoon and staying there for a while, Xia Xiao then took her child and went back.

Although she had a falling out with Sun Yuhua, meals still had to be prepared at home. In case Sun Yuhua didn’t cook, she couldn’t just not cook. Otherwise, what would Gao Guoqiang and Zheng Xianghong have to eat when they came back?

Now, Gao Jiazhi was at school and since it was quite a distance away, Gao Jiazhi also had teacher dormitories at the school, but they were communal. Sun Yuhua couldn’t even go if she wanted to.

Occasionally, Gao Jiazhi would eat at school before coming back, but most of the time, he would come home to eat. He also took lunch with him in the morning.

When Xia Xiao got home and saw how deserted it looked, Sun Yuhua’s room door was tightly closed. Xia Xiao didn’t bother and just took the child to the kitchen doorway where they sat playing with the small wooden blocks Gao Guoqiang had made for them while Xia Xiao started cooking.

A toddler is always a handful. While cooking, Xia Xiao would look outside from time to time, shouting occasionally and going out to check on the child, then returning to her cooking.

She had just gotten annoyed with the vegetables when suddenly, a cry came out. Xia Xiao hurried outside to see Feiyang had fallen and was lying on the ground looking at her.

Xia Xiao laughed, "Oh, Feiyang fell over. Get up by yourself."

Every time the child fell, Zheng Xianghong would be heartbroken and want to help him up, but Xia Xiao preferred to let the child get up on their own, and Gao Guoqiang also thought this was good.

So, seeing that Xia Xiao wasn’t going to help or hold him, Feiyang, who had initially stopped crying, started crying again. When he did, Xia Xiao laughed, then Feiyue started laughing too, and Feiyang couldn’t keep crying, so he laughed as well.

In the end, Feiyang got up by himself. Xia Xiao exclaimed, she still had vegetables on the stove, and quickly ran back to the kitchen.

"Brother, can you watch the kids for me? I’m going to cook some dishes," Xia Xiao called out to Shitou.

Shitou’s voice came through, "I’ve been watching them the whole time, and they haven’t gotten into any serious trouble."

"Falling counts too," Xia Xiao responded.

"What’s a light fall anyway, and you’re not even upset about it."

After Shitou’s response, Xia Xiao was speechless. It wasn’t that she wasn’t upset; she just wanted to raise her children to be more independent and strong.

Thinking about her brother in her previous life, who was spoiled by the family, acting all high and mighty, with parents who doted on him so much they seemed afraid he would melt in their mouths, his willful temper grew as well. Considering what he grew into and that he wasn’t necessarily filial when the parents grew old, it would eventually be the parents who suffered.

With Shitou watching, Xia Xiao felt much relieved. Once the meal was ready and she had finished cooking the dishes, Gao Guoqiang, Zheng Xianghong, and Gao Jiazhi all came back gradually.

Not seeing Sun Yuhua, Zheng Xianghong asked, "Where’s Yuhua?"

Xia Xiao pulled at her smile and replied, "Not sure, I just came back from my sister’s place with the kids to cook."

Gao Jiazhi immediately went inside the house. Seeing Sun Yuhua and the children sleeping, he came out and spoke to Zheng Xianghong.
