Chapter 262 - 261: Did Mother-in-law Send You to Talk About This?
"Hello, I’m Xia Xiao, Xia Jing’s sister." Xia Xiao still managed a slight smile as she greeted everyone.
"Hello Sister Xia, you’re very pretty," a few girls giggled.
Xia Xiao said, "We share a dormitory, and Ning Hui and Yang Xuehua are both very kind-hearted. If you have any questions as newcomers, feel free to ask us or seek our help. We’re all part of the same group, and we should be united and kind, helping each other. It’s good for you, me, and everyone, right?"
"Sister Xia is right," the girls nodded in unison.
Ning Hui said, "Alright, you just got back; go to your aunt’s house. I guess she has heard of your return and is eagerly waiting."
"Okay, then I’ll go to my aunt’s house," Xia Xiao spoke and then said to Xia Jing, "Little sister, come with me."
"Okay," Xia Jing nodded her head.
On the way, Xia Xiao asked Xia Jing when she had arrived.
Xia Jing replied, "I arrived yesterday evening and was arranged to be in the same dorm as you. Sister Ning Hui and Sister Xuehua took very good care of me once they knew I was your sister. But, sister, about Yang Zhonghong, if we have offended her, could it pose trouble for our family?"
"No, don’t be afraid of her," Xia Xiao said.
However, in Xia Xiao’s view, these newcomers to the countryside were all troublemakers. She planned to remind Zheng Xianghong at the Gao family’s house, so they wouldn’t have other ideas and stir up trouble.
Upon arriving at the Gao family’s house, before Xia Xiao could speak up, Zheng Xianghong had already seen her and hurriedly said, "Xia Xiao, you’re back! Come in and have a seat."
"Aunt, I’ve brought my sister over," Xia Xiao and Xia Jing walked into the courtyard.
Zheng Xianghong said, "It must be Xia Jing right? I heard she’s your sister. She looks like you. I had your squad leader arrange for your sister to be in the same dorm as you."
"Thank you, aunt," Xia Xiao scarcely finished speaking before Xia Jing also expressed her thanks to Zheng Xianghong.
"What’s there to thank for? Come in and sit down," Zheng Xianghong walked into the house.
Xia Xiao and Xia Jing entered and saw a five-month-old baby in a cradle nearby who had grown even more beautiful and adorable.
"It seems Weilin has grown a bit more in just a few days," Xia Xiao approached and said.
"Children change every day," Zheng Xianghong replied with a slight smile.
Xia Xiao glanced at the firmly closed door of Sun Yuhua’s room and asked, "Aunt, is Sister Yuhua resting?"
Zheng Xianghong nodded, "Yes." However, she didn’t say much more. Sun Yuhua had indeed gone to work, but would return after a while and then neglect the child, lying down to sleep for most of the day.
Zheng Xianghong had grown hopeless about Sun Yuhua, just hoping that if Sun Yuhua didn’t make trouble, everyone could live in peace.
Xia Xiao then talked to Zheng Xianghong about Gao Jiaxing being in the army. Zheng Xianghong listened with a smile and Xia Xiao handed her a letter, "This is from Brother Gao; he asked me to give it to you."
"This child, always so busy with training but still often writes letters. He just sent one last month and now another," Zheng Xianghong said, though her face showed her happiness.
Zheng Xianghong agreed, and Xia Xiao nodded, feeling that it was the right sentiment.
Suddenly, the door opened and Xia Xiao saw Sun Yuhua come out, immediately greeting her, "Sister Yuhua."
"Xia Xiao, come in for a moment," Sun Yuhua said.
Xia Xiao nodded, telling Zheng Xianghong, "Aunt, I’m going to talk with Sister Yuhua for a bit."
"Go ahead," Zheng Xianghong nodded.
Xia Xiao then said to Xia Jing, "Xiao Jing, stay here and keep Aunt company." After speaking, Xia Xiao stood up and went toward Sun Yuhua’s room.
As soon as she entered Sun Yuhua’s room, Xia Xiao involuntarily frowned, "Sister Yuhua, it’s not good to keep this room so stuffy all the time. You need to air it out. Even if you don’t open the door, you should open the windows."
"Then open the windows," Sun Yuhua said.
Xia Xiao shook her head inwardly, wondering how Sun Yuhua had become this way, but she still helped open the window, thinking it was fortunate that Weilin was mostly looked after by Zheng Xianghong, or else the mother and daughter would be stuck in the room together, which would be bad for the adults, let alone the child.
"Xia Xiao, did you manage to deliver my letter to my home?" Sun Yuhua asked.
Xia Xiao nodded, "I handed it directly to Aunt Sun."
"What did my mom say?" Sun Yuhua’s expression was anxious.
Xia Xiao, seeing Sun Yuhua’s hopeful look, struggled to respond, "I gave the letter to Aunt. She said that you shouldn’t write back home anymore."
Xia Xiao repeated Mrs. Sun’s words to Sun Yuhua, upon which Sun Yuhua’s tears uncontrollably fell, "How could they be so merciless? They really don’t acknowledge me anymore."
Xia Xiao didn’t know how to comfort Sun Yuhua. If she weren’t familiar with the Suns, she might have managed some comforting words, but knowing their nature, she couldn’t utter them.
However, seeing how distressed Sun Yuhua was, Xia Xiao still said, "Sister Yuhua, don’t think too much about it. You now have Brother Gao, Weilin, the squad leader, and Aunt. They are your family. There’s an upside to country folk; they are hardworking and honest. The squad leader and Aunt are decent people, and Brother Gao cares about Sister Yuhua a lot."
To which Sun Yuhua abruptly replied, "Did Mother-in-law send you to talk about this?"
